Lighthouse Scene - Solo Project Pitch Presentation

A major part of the inspiration came when I was thinking of ways to meet the learning outcomes, producing a showreel focusing on my specialisation of modelling and incorporating lighting into it. I also needed it to be something that I was capable of at my skill level but still be reasonably challenging and a learning experience.

While thinking of the learning outcome, "Research and implement lighting solutions that support the intended purpose and scope of projects", I came up with the idea of a lighthouse and felt that the project was suitable for meeting that learning outcome. The light emitted from the lighthouse could be used to light the surrounding environment.

Unfortunately, I didn't have any concept designs, concept sketches or concept models as I had to dedicate much more time to the other two projects this unit I'm already involved in and also my CIU212 class. Also, if I was to get more involved with the modelling team in the major project, there may not be any time for this solo project anyway.

When I pitched the idea in class, it was received well by the tutor who green lighted the idea. My tutor felt the household objects in the interior of the lighthouse could be interesting and I agree. He also suggested to not worry about including animation or a story. Modelling is my specialisation so I really should just focus on that for this project especially with only seven weeks remaining.

My tutor suggested I go inside a lighthouse for good reference material. However, this is unlikely to happen. A classmate also recommended a video game that makes good use of a lighthouse environment. I also remembered a lighthouse from the Silent Hill series. Although that lighthouse is depicted in a slightly less realistic and more surreal way, it could be good reference material if I decide to make a more unusual and fantastical lighthouse.
