Week 6

For Wednesday's scheduled class, we were supposed to be learning more about the program, Nuke. However, the tutor decided to reschedule it because it was important to discuss an issue with us in this class.

The quality of the storyboards were far below standards. Our tutor had shown the storyboards to other people who found them to be incoherent. He showed them to our class and asked us to pretend we knew nothing about the story. It became evident that the storyboards were not able to visually tell the story as no one in the class found them to be coherent.

He explained that the quality of the storyboards we made could be easily done by a four year old using the program, Paint. He was disappointed because he knows we are capable of more than that. He even said it was one of the worst sets of storyboards he has ever seen.

He also felt it was important to warn us that work of that quality would not be tolerated in the industry and if you produced work like that, you would lose your job, get a bad reference and likely never work in the industry again.

Also, the animatic for the major project had not yet been completed. It was supposed to have been completed at the end of the previous week. It was bad that we were so far behind on a small timeframe that can't afford people to be that far behind schedule. Because of this huge delay, our tutor stated that we needed to do a different type of animatic but that would still be 3D like was originally planned. Models had to be rebuilt and we also had to start filling in timesheets to show how much work we had done for this unit in a session. The measurement and scales Nathan Wilkie-King were no longer relevant.

Since models had to be rebuilt, I had to remodel a proxy of Scene 13. I made a simple plan and sculpted it to make it look like the scene in the storyboards. I then imported the file of the tree. We were also encouraged to make sketches of what we were modeling to get a better understanding of it.

The full scene.
The most important part designed to resemble the storyboard.

With the little bit left of class time after posting the new Scene 13, I decided to contribute a bit more to the Voodoo project. I sketched the bedroom door in the same theme that Sarah suggested. I also thought it would be a good idea to make simple model of the bedroom and the objects inside it to get an understanding of how the room would look in 3D and get an understanding of each object to scale. Since there wasn't much time left for that class, I didn't complete that room but this is what I did get done.

Thursday's class was allocated for students to present their Specialized Skills presentation. I had came prepared, however, I along with several other students did not present as there was not enough time within three hours for all students to present. I'd chosen to do mine on 3D printing. Since the following week was a study week, those of us who still had two extra weeks to prepare for ours. I did however pitch my idea for a solo project which I will discuss more in the next post.
